The Golden Compass: A Transmedia Journey

What happens when you're IN the story?

The video games was released following the movie in 2007, designed for as a computer game and Playstations 1 and 2, Wii, Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Xbox 360. Player can play as Lyra or as Iorek the armored bear. While the graphics are based on the movie, oddly enough the story more closely follows the book than the film does. The order of events happen more accurately than the movie adaptation. Also, clips from the films deleted extended ending are used, which also are more true to the literary version.

The game did not garner much controversy, which is interesting since in a game, the player is IN the story, fighting against the enemy. One would think that this would cause more outcry, since isn't the basis of the criticisms against the story that the "enemy" is the Church? Perhaps it's just because the game did not get much media attention; out of sight out of mind?
